Electronic signatures are legally recognised in both the United Kingdom and the European Union. The legal status of electronic signatures is governed by various regulations and directives.

Our partner Signable sticks to and exceeds the latest electronic signature laws within the UK and the European Union, most notably eIDAS regulation.

United Kingdom (UK): In the UK, the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the Electronic Signatures Regulations 2002 provide the legal framework for the use of electronic signatures. These laws acknowledge the validity of electronic signatures, including advanced and qualified electronic signatures, under certain conditions.

European Union (EU): In the European Union, the eIDAS Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 910/2014) is the key legislative framework for electronic signatures. eIDAS stands for "Electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services," and it establishes a legal foundation for electronic signatures, ensuring their cross-border recognition within the EU member states.
